Oreo Balls – Easy recipe for the holidays!

oreo balls recipe

With the holidays in full swing, one of the best parts is all the yummy desserts we get to eat!

Off the bat, we will tell you those special holiDAYS  (days..not the whole month now!) are days you should enjoy with your family and not worry about eating perfectly.

These oreo balls:

  • taste awesome
  • are super easy to make
  • have only 3 ingredients
  • require no baking!

Throw them together as a last minute dessert, give them out to your friends, or keep them all to yourself!

I always make these to either bring over, or have at home during the holidays. The best part is you can totally get the kids involved in helping you.

Let’s get to it!

Time from start to finish:  40 minutes

The time to make these from START to FINISH is approximately 40 minutes. We have seen others say it takes much less but they don’t include the chilling time. You have to include the chilling time because…well…that’s part of the process!

Ingredients: 4 ingredients!

  • 38 Original Oreos (no double stuffed)
  • 8 oz of cream cheese, at room temperature (add additional oz(s) for a creamier truffle)
  • 1 cup chocolate chips, preferable semi-sweet (optional: 1/4 white chocolate chips, espresso chips, and/or peanut butter chips can be used for decoration on top)
  • Sprinkles for decorating
What you need: besides your hands
  • Your hands (got em? good)
  • Food processor (or hand smashing tool / zip lock bag with mallet)
  • Large bowl
  • Microwave safe bowl
How to make the oreo balls: the good stuff!

1. In a food processor (or using a hand mashing tool or ziplock bag and a mallet) crush the Oreos into a powder. You can let the kids get in on the fun by letting them crush some of it with spoons.

2. In a large bowl, add the room temperature cream cheese to the bowl with the crushed Oreos. Mix.

3. Roll the mixture into balls (think two bites). You can make the balls any size you prefer.

4. Place the balls in the freezer for 25 minutes. Freezing the balls will help you in the chocolate coating process.

5. A few minutes before removing the balls, start melting the chocolate chips. If you have a large, heat-resistant bowl, you can use a double bowl system (this is preferable), or you can simply microwave the chips in the microwave in 30-second intervals, mixing in between.

6. Once the chocolate is melted, remove the balls and begin the coat them in chocolate. I find the easiest way is to dip a ball into the melted chocolate and roll it around until it’s fully coated then remove to cool.

7. Once all the balls have been dipped in chocolate, you may decorate the tops.
To decorate you have options!

  • Crushed oreo (best to use right after removing the ball from the chocolate, so it will stick to the top)
  •  Drizzle melted chocolate, place chocolate into a ziplock bag, cut a small corner off, and drizzle. You can do this for any chocolate you prefer (white, espresso, peanut butter, etc.). For the holidays, you can usually find holiday-colored chocolate chips or you can add food coloring to white chocolate if you can not find any.

Enjoy!
